INCHEON, South Korea -- Veronica Belleza allowed six hits in a complete game to help the Philippine Blu Girls to a 3-1 victory over host Korea in the Asian Games softball competitions here on Saturday at the Songdo LNG Baseball Stadium.
Morgan Stewart also had two RBIs as the Blu Girls scored two runs in the first inning to set the stage for the win.
But the Filipinas failed to sustain their strong start as they dropped a 10-2 decision over Asian powerhouse Japan in their second game for the day.
The team remains optimistic though, about reaching the page-system semifinals in their bid to win a bronze medal.
The Philippines goes for its second win on Sunday against China at the same venue. The Blu Girls faced the Chinese in a tune-up game on Thursday which ended in a scoreless tie at the fifth inning due to rain. The Filipina batters, however, had three hits against one.
