MICHELLE LENTIJA blasted a key home run in the fifth inning as Manila came from behind to beat Canada, 4-3, in the Big League Softball World Series on Saturday in Kalamazoo, Michigan (Sunday, Manila time).
Lentija’s three-run home run at the bottom of the fifth pulled Manila ahead to complete its comeback from a three-run deficit.
Manila improved its win-loss card to 3-2 and stayed in contention for a finals berth. California and Michigan are in the top two spots with 4-1 and 3-1 win-loss slates, respectively.
A run-scoring hit by Allison Telfer in the first inning and a two-run hit by Amanda Simke in the second gave Canada a 3-0 lead.
Manila finally got on the scoreboard when Krisna Paguican singled to score Gene Joy Parilla from third base. Then, Paguican advanced to second base on a Rizza Bernardino single, setting up the heroics of Lentija, who hit the four-bagger on the first pitch of losing pitcher Telfer.
