Illam softbelles bounce back with 12-run romp

    Aug 12, 2012

INTERNATIONAL Little League Association of Manila (Illam) nailed its first win in the Little League Softball World Series, handing Canada a 19-7 beating Saturday (Sunday, Manila time) in Portland, Oregon.

Grace Rose Stevens had an explosive offensive game with four runs and four RBIs to help Illam bounce back from back-to-back losses at the start of its campaign.

Southwest and East are on top of the standings with 2-0 win-loss records followed by West with a 1-1 card.

The Asia-Pacific representatives scored six runs early in the first inning before scattering five runs in each the third and fourth frames for the runaway victory.

The Canadians still scored seven in the bottom of the fourth inning but the lead was too much to overcome.

Illam earned a trip to Portland after going undefeated in the Asia-Pacific qualifiers last June in Indonesia.
