INTERNATIONAL Little League Association of Manila (Illam) lost its first two matches in the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Oregon.
Illam went down aganst West Region, 11-4, Thursday (Friday Manila time), before being blanked by Southwest, 10-0, via a no-hitter Friday (Saturday Manila time).
The Illam softbelles struggled against the pitching crew of starter Shannon Stein, Andrea Howard, Ariana Strunk, and Victoria Reyes against Southwest as they took turns in hurling a no-hitter in five innings.
Jenny Hickey of West Region yielded eight hits in a complete game as their only source of run-scoring hits came from Mariana Solitaria and Mia Laurel.
With the losses, Illam found itself at the bottom of the standings together with Canada with an 0-2 win-loss slates in Pool A. East is on top with 2-0, followed by Southwest and West with 1-0 cards.
The top two teams in each group will advance to the crossover semifinals.
The Illam softbelles are looking to duplicate Manila's triumph in the Big League Softball World Series in Kalamazoo, Michigan recently.
