THE Philippine Blu Girls bowed out of contention for a spot in the Olympics after being blanked by Australia, 7-0, on Friday in the super round of the WBSC Softball Asia/Oceania qualifier in Shanghai, China.
The Blu Girls only had two hits the entire match as their offense was silenced by Australia pitcher Kaia Parnaby, who struck out seven batters to oust the Philippines from contention for the lone berth in the 2020 Olympics.
The Blu Girls fell to 0-2 as its win over New Zealand, one of four teams which didn’t make it to the next round, was scratched from the team's records for the super round.
Only Mary Maguad and Arianne Vallestero came up with hits in the first and third innings respectively, while Australia's batters pelted the Philippine batters with eight hits.
