THE Philippine Blu Girls snapped a four-game skid, beating world No. 10 Mexico, 4-2, in the World Cup of Softball XII at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex on Saturday in Oklahoma (Sunday, Manila time).

Francesca Altomonte hit a two-run homer to give the 17th-ranked Pinays a two-run cushion on their way to posting their second win in the eight-team tournament.

The Filipinas shocked the No. 4 Australians, 7-5, on opening day but dropped their next four matches.

The Pinays and the Mexicans face off again in the ranking match on Sunday.

Altomonte had two RBI in three plate appearances to lead the Philippines’ offense.

Sierra Lange allowed two runs on seven hits, striking out four in a no-relief job.

The Pinay softbelles took the lead in the top of the second with an Angelie Ursabia RBI single. Skylynne Eliazar doubled the lead as she reached the plate off a fielder’s choice.
