THE Philippine Blu Boys suffered their fifth setback in five outings, losing to the Netherlands, 4-8, in the 2013 Men’s World Softball Championships in Auckland, New Zealand.

The Blu Boys registered three runs in the second inning to tie the game, matched the Netherlands’ one run output in the next frame to keep it knotted, but failed to score again.

Edmer Del Socorro scored on an error, a squeeze play that scored Ben Maravilles, and a run by Oscar Bradshaw on a double steal tied the game up at 3-3 in the second inning after the Blu Boys fell behind by two in the first.

Orlando Binarao tripled and scored on a Dario Bacarisas single to keep the game tied, 4-4, at the end of the third inning.

But the Philippines allowed Netherlands to score two runs in the next frame on a two-run home run by Mike den Braven off George Marquez.

A two-run single by Enrique Javier made it a four-run lead for the Dutch.

The Philippines hopes to win its first game when it takes on Japan, the same team that won the Asian Softball Championships last year, before wrapping up the eliminations against host New Zealand.
