THE PHILIPPINE Blu Boys split their opening matches on Thursday in the Asian Softball Championships in Miimi, Okayama in Japan.
The Blu Boys beat Indonesia, 2-0, in their opener in a rematch of the gold medal game in the 2011 Southeast Asian Games in Palembang, Indonesia.
But the Blu Boys bowed in their second game, losing to powerhouse Japan, 0-8, in the five-team tournament where the top three teams will advance to the 2013 World Softball Championships in New Zealand.
The Philippines is in second place in the standings with a 1-1 record behind unbeaten Japan (2-0).
The Blu Boys were to take on Singapore and Hong Kong on Friday before wrapping up the eliminations against India.
