THE Philippine Blu Boys absorbed their fourth straight defeat, bowing to Mexico 6-8 in eight innings on Monday in the ISF Men’s Softball Championships in Auckland, New Zealand.
The Blu Boys gave up three runs in the extra inning after squandering a one-run lead in the final frame to remain winless in four outings.
The Philippines had a 5-4 lead entering the seventh after scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks a two-run triple by Oscar Binarao followed by an RBI double by Jasper Cabrera.

But Mexico’s Edgar Lopez pushed the tying run home at the top of the seventh with pitcher Eduardo Escubedo stranding Blu Boys runners on second and first base to force an extension. Escubedo struck out Anthony Santos and forced Jerome Bacarisas to ground out.
Mexico completed the comeback with Jesus Cardona, Ruben Delgadillo, and Gustavo Prishker blasting run-scoring hits in the eighth frame.
Bacarisas scored on a wild pitch at the bottom of the eighth but it wasn’t enough to mount a comeback.
The Philippines, which finished 10th in the last world championships four years ago, will next take on Netherlands, Japan, and host New Zealand.
