Tough road to UAAP softball five-peat as mighty Lady Falcons lose key players

Stretching streak in Season 77 won't be easy with loss of key players, says Lady Falcons coach

ADAMSON sees its route to next season’s UAAP softball title as much more difficult compared to this year when the Lady Falcons swept all their games in Season 76.

Lady Falcons head coach Ana Santiago downplayed the chances of the team for next year after finishing with their fourth straight championship with an 8-1 victory over National University on Friday.

“Hindi magiging madali para sa amin next year,” said Santiago.

Adamson’s victory over NU was the squad’s 48th straight victory dating back to 2010 but Santiago bared that keeping the streak won’t be easy.

Santiago noted the key losses of pitchers Rizza Bernardino and Julie Muyco for Season 77.

Bernardino, Most Valuable Player of Season 75, won the Most Home Runs and Best Pitcher plums on her final year.

But still in the lineup is Analie Benjamen, who won the Season 76 MVP crown.

“Five sa first nine ang mawawala sa akin,” said Santiago. “Hindi na kami sure next year.”

The concurrent national women’s team and Team Manila head coach also sees other teams improving next year.

“Siyempre ang NU, solid pa sila and ang UST, nandyan pa rin so kailangan talaga naming mag-recruit para pandagdag sa team para madagdagan ang confidence,” said Santiago.
