LORNA Paguican led Adamson to a 5-2 victory over National University, preserving the Lady Falcons’ winning streak in the UAAP Season 78 softball tournament on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
Paguican drilled a base hit to right field in the fourth inning to push the go-ahead run that turned out to be the winning score for the Lady Falcons, who improved their season record to 5-0.
NU suffered its first loss for a 5-1 slate to cap of first round hostilities for the Lady Bulldogs.
Paguican earlier belted a two-run hit in the second inning that put the Lady Falcons aboard early.
The Lady Falcons scored two more runs in the seventh inning on their way to the victory that extended the Lady Falcons’ winning run to 67 games.
Adamson coach Ana Santiago credited the bottom order led by Paguican in stepping up against NU in the battle of unbeaten teams.
“Lagi ko siya nasesermonan dahil wala siyang pinapalo. Laging ang bottom namin, three outs lagi. Pero this time, nag-deliver sila.” said Santiago of Paguican.
Adamson scored the game’s first two runs in the second inning but NU went on the board on a sacrifice fly by Colleen Alilin before Aimee Watson drilled a run-scoring triple to tie the game, 2-2, in the third.
Adamson’s bottom of the batting order produced when it mattered the following inning with Clarisse Lozada hitting a two-out single before Paguican’s crucial run-scoring hit.
Riezel Calumbres provided the highlight play for Adamson in the seventh, eluding a tag at home plate to score the first of three runs of the inning for the Lady Falcons.
