JOBITO TENEZA, Jerwinn Ching, and Nonie Alvarez shared top honors in the practical shooting competition of the Philippine National Shooting Association's 2012 National Open recently at the Marines Shooting Range in Fort Bonifacio, Makati.
Teneza ruled the 48-round open competition by edging out Eduardo Yao and Ching.
Ching, however, rebounded mightily to win the WA1500 men’s pistol and men’s 480-round production, while Alvarez ruled the WA1500 revolver and WA 1500 revolver senior.
Tournaments in pistol, rifle, shotgun and non-issf (International Shooting Sport Federation) were also held, with Olympian Eric Ang (shotgun), Tac Padilla (pistol), Julius Valdez (rifle) and Randy Paronda and Maria Theresa Clutario (N-ISSF Aggrupation) dominating their events.
Other big winners were Geraldyn Cruz (women’s 48 rounds open), Clutario (women’s WA 1500 pistol, 48-round), Gilbert Ng (48-round standard), Jose Mari Cortez ( 48-round production veteran), Gail Basa (women’s 48-round production) and Emil Llames (48-round open veteran).
Equally sharp were Ariel Santos (action shotgun semi-auto), Grace Cadiz, Tony Lozano, Boy Tronqued (shotgun super senior award), Gerry Manabat (action shotgun pump), Jerry Sun (action rifle .22 semi-auto), Felino Neri (action rifle .22 pump) and Marlon Tronqued (junior award).
“We’re happy with the large turnout of participants. The competition itself was impressive as some events were decided by a shoot-off. It’s a good indication,” said PNSA president and Harbour Centre CEO Mikee Romero.
“With the excitement generated by this tournament, we hope to lure more shooting enthusiasts to join the association.”
