Pinay archer Kareel Meer Hongitan bags four gold medals in Southeast Asian Open

KAREEL Meer Hongitan bagged four gold medals as the Philippine team won a total of six in the 6th Southeast Asian Open Archery Championships in Yangon, Myanmar.

The Philippine contingent also bagged four silver and two bronze medals in the tournament held from January 19 to 25.

Hongitan topped the women’s Olympic round recurve to take the gold with fellow Filipina Mary Queen Ybanez and Nicole Marie Tagle taking the silver and bronze, respectively.

Hongitan ruled the women’s qualification round with Ybanez also placing second for a 1-2 finish.

She was also part of the women’s team event gold with Ybanez and Tagle, and mixed team gold with Florante Matan.

In the compound, Paul Marton Dela Cruz finished in first place in the men’s qualification round to also win the gold, while his wife Rachelle Anne Cabral-Dela Cruz joined Jennifer Chan, and Andrea Lucia Robles in topping the women’s team event.

The Dela Cruz husband-and-wife tandem clinched a silver medal in the mixed team, while Cabral-Dela Cruz took the silver medal in the women’s qualification round.

In the men’s team event, Dela Cruz, Niron Brylle Concepcion and Joseph Bernie Bague clinched a bronze medal.
