Monsour del Rosario bats for pocket tournaments to help preparations for 2019 SEAG hosting
Monsour del Rosario, appointed PH chef de mission for the 2019 SEAG, sees pocket tournaments as part of seeing how prepared the athletes and facilities are for the country's hosting of the biennial meet.

MAKATI Rep. Monsour Del Rosario put forward the idea of the Philippines staging pocket tournaments to gauge the preparedness of athletes and facilities before the country's hosting of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Del Rosario, who was appointed as chef de mission of the Philippines in the 2019 SEA Games, said the country will be better prepared to serve as hosts of the biennial meet through the pocket tournaments.

”Ang napag-isipan namin, gusto namin mag-host ng pocket tournaments. Kahit mga three to four countries, mag-host tayo ng combat sports, racquet sports, ball sports. I-try natin ang facilities natin at tignan natin ‘yung mga athletes natin kung saan tayo magpe-place,” said Del Rosario during a forum hosted by the Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Olympic Committee Media Group.

Del Rosario said meetings are expected to take place in relation to the country’s hosting and participation of the 2019 SEA Games with organizing committee chairman and Foreign Affairs secretary Allan Peter Cayetano, POC president Jose ‘Peping’ Cojuangco, and PSC chairman William Ramirez.

“Ang sinabi niya sa akin (Cojuangco), antayin matapos ang Asean Summit and then kukunin natin free schedule ni Sec. Cayetano. We will sit down and discuss plans for he 2019 SEA Games,” said Del Rosario.
