Monsour Del Rosario careful not to raise bar too high for PH in 2019 SEA Games
Monsour Del Rosario is set to be named chef de mission for the Philippines' campaign in the 2019 SEA Games.

MONSOUR Del Rosario, the incoming chef de mission of the Philippine contingent to the next Southeast Asian Games, is careful not to raise the bar too high when the country hosts the biennial showpiece in two years' time.

Speaking on Friday following the awarding of incentives of medalist in the recent Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, Del Rosario said his goal is for the country to land in the Top Three of the medal tally as Games host.

Del Rosario is expected to be appointed by Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose ‘Peping’ Cojuangco as chef de mission of the 2019 SEA Games.

“I’m not promising that we will be number one. We are hoping that we will be in the Top Three,” said Del Rosario, also a Makati representative in Congress.

The last time the country hosted the SEA Games was in 2005 when the country ruled the event with a haul of 113 gold medals.

Del Rosario, who is the secretary general of the Philippine Taekwondo Association, sees a different story come 2019 saying a lot of the member nations have improved a lot since then.

“The games have changed, the people have changed, the experiences are different, and technology has changed. What I’m saying is that we have a fighting chance,” said Del Rosario.
