SENATOR Migz Zubiri has been appointed as chairman of the organizing committee of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games which the Philippines will host.

No less than President Duterte issued the appointment, according to Philippine Sports Commission chairman William Ramirez, signaling the start of the preparations of the country's hosting of the biennial event.

Ramirez added the official appointment papers of Zubiri will come from Malacanang anytime soon.

Ramirez said Zubiri will call a meeting with the PSC and the Philippine Olympic Committee next week to begin preparations for the hosting which he envisions as an endeavor by the government and the private sector.

"The POC cannot operate without the government, so the role of Sen. Zubiri is to represent the President and the government," said Ramirez.

Ramirez said the budget for the hosting will come from the government while the organizing committee will be run by the POC.

"It's a collaboration under the chairman," said Ramirez.
