COACH Jong Uichico says Gilas Pilipinas’ squeaker in the opener proves the Southeast Asian Games is no walk in the park and there’s much work to be done in Kuala Lumpur.

After Myanmar, Gilas Pilipinas is set to take on Malaysia and Uichico is bracing for a tough match against the home team.

“We saw during our game against Thailand that this tournament is no longer the same as before,” said Uichico.

“We have to do some adjustments if we want to win convincingly over the Malaysians.”

Gilas Pilipinas, led by Filipino-German Christian Standhardinger, Ray Parks and Kiefer Ravena, battles Malaysia on Wednesday at the MABA Stadium.

The top two teams in each group advance to the crossover semifinals.

Indonesia, Singapore, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia are in the other group.

Perlas Pilipinas, meanwhile, seek their third win in four games as it takes on Thailand at 8:15 p.m.

The Filipinas are coming off a 90-point drubbing of Myanmar after losing by 10 to Indonesia.

Perlas Pilipinas hopes the Indonesians will drop their next two assignments against Thailand and Malaysia to get a shot at the top seed at the end of preliminaries.
