Filipinas win bronze in trios for first bowling medal in SEA Games

SINGAPORE — Marie Alexis Sy, Lara Posadas and Maria Arles won bronze in women’s trios on Thursday at the Orchid Bowl of the Orchid Country Club, bowling’s first medal in the 28th Southeast Asian Games.

Sy rolled 1195 pinfalls, Posadas made 1226 and Arles had 1187 for a 3608 total.

Singapore finished 1-2 with Cherie Tan (1284), Bernice Lim (1313) and Shayna Ng (1366) winning the event with a 3963 aggregate, and Hui Fen New (1223), Jazreel Tan (1219) and Daphne Tan (1265) clinchi the silver medal with 3707.

The other Philippine women’s trios team of Liza del Rosario (1257), Krizziah Tabora (1141) and Liza Clutario (1181) wound up fifth with 3579, behind Malaysia (3585).

The men’s squads finished way below the field topped by Malaysia 1 (3701), Singapore 2 (3656) and Indonesia 1 (3653).

Philippines Team 1 of Kenneth Chua (1109), Jo-Mar Jumapao (1105) and Enrico Hernandez (1242) totaled 3456 for 10th place and Team 2 of Jonas Baltasar (990), Kevin Cu (1209) and Frederick Ong (0) was second to last ahead of Vietnam with 2199 in the 14-team event.
