KUALA LUMPUR - Efren 'Bata' Reyes hurdled his first match in English billiards singles but Dennis Orcollo and Warren Kiamco made an early exit in the men's 9-ball doubles in the Southeast Asian Games at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center on Wednesday.

Reyes defeated Tran Leanh Tuan of Vietnam, 100-0, 100-60, 100-58, in their pre-quarterfinal match to arrange a round-of-eight match with Peter E. Gilchrist of Singapore.

Orcollo and Kiamco, however, were eliminated in the semifinal round by Singapore, 9-7, in an event where the Philippines won gold two years ago behind Kiamco and Carlo Biado.

Reyes' win came after he and Francisco Dela Cruz lost to a Vietnam team that included Tran in the English billiards doubles on Tuesday.

Reyes is now hoping for the best in the next round where he expects tough opposition from Thai entries.

"'Yung kasunod, magagaling 'yan kasi 'yun talaga ang laro nila, 'yung English billiards," said Reyes.
