LEADING Australian female rider Angelika Schriber heads the cast of top-caliber cable rippers in the 2012 Cable Wakeboard Championship at the Deca Wakeboard Park in Clark, Pampanga from November 6 to 11.
Schriber, named Female Cable Rider of the year Worldwide by the International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation for 2011, will be joined by Dominik Gurhs, Steffen Vollert and Freddy von Osten from Germany, Nick Davies of Great Britain, Lior Sofer of Israel and Denise de Haan from Netherlands in the event featuring around 300 wakeboarders.
Carrying the fight for the country are Southeast Asian Games bronze medalists Carlo dela Torre, Samantha Bermudez and Mark Griffin.
“We may be new to the sport but our progression is very fast,” said Bermudez. “We promise to do our best for the honor of our flag and country.”
Bermudez won bronze in the female wakeboard event in the 2011 Indonesia SEA Games and finished third in the team category with De la Torre and Griffin.
The meet features two disciplines — wakeboarding and wakeskating.
Wakeboarding will have competitions in the boys and girls division, men’s and ladies’ junior, open, masters and veterans levels. Wakeskating will have the men’s and ladies’ categories in the junior and open ranks.
