World championship berths at stake in Powerman Asian Championships set at Clark

FILIPINO duathletes gear up for battle against some of the best in the sport in the 2017 ASTC Powerman Philippines Asian Championships on Oct. 8 at Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga.

Race organizers expect at least 800 local and foreign participants from all around the world, including elite athletes from the US, Europe, Australia and Asia Pacific regions, as it doubles as a qualifier for the Powerman World Championships in Zofingen, Switzerland.

The main race it the Powerman Classic — a 10km run, 60km bike and 10km run event.

Also on tap are the Powerman Short (5km run, 30km bike and 5km run) and the Powerteens.

“The driving force behind this year’s event is to bring the Filipino duathlete to the world stage. It’s all about investing in their potential with the ultimate goal of sending our top duathletes to the 2019 Powerman World Championships in Zofingen, Switzerland,” said Powerman Philippines general manager and duathlon coach Kaye Lopez.

Presented by Summit Drinking Water, the event is backed by Clark Freeport Zone, SCTEx, Cobra, Columbia, ActiveHealth, Garmin, Seafood Island Restaurant, Hammer Nutrition, Dan’s Endurance, 2XU and Skechers Performance.
