Apr 25, 2017

SYLVIAN Faith Abunda set a new record in the secondary girls javelin throw on Tuesday in the athletics competition of the Palarong Pambansa in San Jose De Buenavista, Antique.

The 16-year-old Abunda from Lantapan National High School, Bukidnon threw the spear 42.85 meters to eclipse the record previously held by fellow Northern Mindanao athlete Efrelyn Democer (42.34) in 2015 in Tagum City.

It was the second athletics record set in this year’s Palaro after Western Visayas’ James Lozanez won the secondary boys javelin with a 59.46-m throw.

A record was also set in the demonstration event of 2,000m walk for secondary boys on Tuesday with Bryan Oxales of National Capital Region in 10 minutes, 11.31 seconds, breaking the previous mark of Jomar Angga of Davao Region (11:17.10).
