POWERMAN Duathlon Pilipinas holds its maiden race in the country on November 14-15 in the historic city of Balanga,Bataan.
The two-day meet, consisting of running and cycling, serves as the qualifying event for the 2016 Powerman World Championship to be held in Zofinger, Switzerland.
Organizers expect around 1,500 participants in the professional and age group categories combined, including the possible participation of reigning Powerman World Championship winner Gael Le Bellec.
The meet features the classic distance of 10-km run, 60-km bike, and 10-km run and the short distance of 5km-30km- 5k in a straight but hilly course in the capital city of Bataan.
Aside from its proximity from Manila, event organizers chose Balanga as competition site in their bid to honor the heroes of World War II.
“We would want to commemorate World War II and pay tribute to the brave men who fought in the war,” said Raymund Magdaluyo, president and chief executive officer of F&F Events International during the official launch of the meet on Monday at the Alphaland in Makati.
“Feeling namin pang matatapang ang duathlon, so it’s fitting to do it in Balanga,” he added.
Aside from the Powerman Duathlon Pilipinas, Magdaluyo said they will be holding the Bataan International Triathlon on November 28-29 in Bagac, Bataan.
