A TEAM from Muntinlupa City dominated the Rugby (Touch) division in the sport’s debut in the PSC Batang Pinoy National Youth Games in Zambales.
SOS Children’s Village Team B ended the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record after it defeated the Davao Durians Juniors in the gold medal game, 4-2, at the Iba Zambales Sports Complex.
Third place went to the Clark Rugby Club after they outplayed SOS Children's Village Team A to a 5-0 score for the bronze.
Six teams from around the country traveled to Zambales for the annual event. A total of 70 youth athletes, 15 years old and below, participated in the October 19 event which was held in conjunction with the CBRE Juniors Tournament.
Competing in the rugby (touch) tournament were two teams from Muntinlupa’s Quest SOS Children's Village; the Clark Rugby Club of Pampanga; Manila’s G4S Child Hope Foundation composed of youth from the streets of Blumentritt and Morayta. The Cebu Junior Dragons and Davao Durians Juniors Rugby flew to Manila to represent their respective cities.
Playing in a round-robin format, SOS Children's Village team B took first place with a total of 15 points (5-0). Davao came in second with a total of 12 points (3-1-1 draw) while Clark Rugby Club made the podium with a total of 11 points (3-2).
