DESPITE two gold medals provided by rowing and men’s basketball, the Philippines remained stuck in seventh place in the overall standings of the of the 27th Southeast Asian Games.
Sinag Pilipinas formally received its gold medal during the formal awarding ceremony of the men’s basketball competition, even as Nestor Cordova topped the men’s single sculls in rowing to give the country a total of 12 gold medals after Monday’s competitions.
The 210-strong national team also has 17 silvers and 23 bronze medals.
But the Filipinos still trails Singapore for sixth spot as the Singaporeans have 18 golds, 16 silvers, and 25 bronze medals.
The Philippines though, put some distance between them and Cambodia, which is in eighth place with four golds, seven silvers, and 12 bronzes.
Thailand is finally pulling away from the rest of the field with 57-44-46 gold-silver-bronze tally, followed by Vietnam at second with 41-36-41.
Host Myanmar is in third spot with 39-37-40, while Indonesia is at fourth with 25-21-46.
Laos occupies ninth with 3-6-20 while Brunei is in tenth with 1-1-4.
Timor Leste has one bronze medal.
