THE Philippines copped two gold medals in the Southeast Asian Rowing Championships in Malaysia recently.
Nelson Cordova captured the gold in the men’s lightweight single sculls with a time of seven minutes and 27 seconds beating bets from Indonesia and Thailand.
Meanwhile, Benjamin Tolentino, a 2000 Sydney Olympian, teamed up with Edgar Ilas to win the double sculls with a clocking of 6:48.58 beating out competitors from Vietnam and Indonesia.
The Filipino rowers also won a silver medal courtesy of Alvin Amposta and Roque Abela when they finished second behind Indonesia.
National head coach Edgar Mayrina said that the team is set to train in China for a month in preparation for the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar.
