The event is set over 200 meters in the men’s, women’s and mixed categories, kicking off at the River Wharf in Muelle Loney in Iloilo City with the elimination races at 6 a.m. leading up to the main event set at 9 p.m.
Out to challenge Boracay All Stars for top honors are the Boracay Sea Dragons Rowing Team, Manila Wave Paddlers' Club, San Beda, Bohol Paddler's Association, John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, St. Therese MTC, Philippine Marines and the Philippine Navy.
The organizing DoubleDragon Properties Corp., together with the Office of Senate President Franklin Drilon, the Philippine Sports Commission and the local government of Iloilo, said the event aims to highlight the progress in the clean-up of the Iloilo River.
“This event is envisioned to promote Iloilo City as a tourism destination which will further stimulate local economic growth not only to Iloilo but the whole of Panay Island,” said Mr. Injap Sia, chairman and CEO of DoubleDragon Properties Corp.
Drilon said: “This is a legacy that I will leave to the Ilonggos that I want to continue for the generations to come - the advocacy to paddle for a cleaner Iloilo River.”
“The Iloilo River is a good venue for water sports recreational activities and entertainment owing to our collective efforts to rehabilitate and develop it,” Iloilo City mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said.
