BUSINESSMAN-sportsman Mikee Romero powered the White Team to a thrilling 9-7 win over Blue Team during the 1st Royale Salute President’s Polo Cup on Sunday at the Alabang Country Club.
Romero accounted for four of White Team’s total goal in a performance that was his best since leading Globalport Polo team to the United States Polo Association (USPA) Championship Cups in St. Louis, Missouri and Chicago last year, and during the recent Past President’s Cup at the Manila Polo Club.
The Globalport team owner in the PBA, now among the hottest polo players in the country, scored a goal in the last 10 seconds that clinched a close 3-2 win in the Manila Polo Club tournament.
Romero though refused to take all the credit for the victory, citing the valuable inputs and brilliant maneuverings of teammates Fil-Am pro player Anthony Garcia and known Hollywood producer Lope Juban Jr.
Garcia and Juban knocked in two goals each in the high goal tournament.
British player Jake Gordon was the fourth member of the White team that repulsed several late comebacks by the Blue Team bannered by Antonio Veloso.
Argentinian banker Patrick Furlong played remarkably for the Blue team by scoring three goals. Adrian Garcia and Santiago Juban were the other members of the team.
