GLOBALPORT owner Mikee Romero took part in the recent Royal Charity Polo Cup at the Billingbear Polo Club in Windsor, United Kingdom.

Romero played in the charity match upon the invitation of Buckingham Palace.

It was a memorable and fulfilling event for the country’s polo patron as Romero was the first ever Filipino polo player to be invited to the annual event that supports two United Kingdom-based charities – Walking with the Wounded for Soldiers and English Schools Association.

“I’m honored to be a part of the noble project,” said Romero, who was also part of the Philippine delegation which competed during the 2012 London Games.

Both charities are also being supported by Prince Harry of Wales who led the Kingpower Foxes to a thrilling 8-7 win over Kingpowe Leichster by scoring two goals.

Aside from providing help to the charities and meeting Prince Harry in the event witnessed by UK’s prominent and wealthy businessmen, Romero also got a rare opportunity of playing against world No. 1 polo player Facundo Pieres of Argentina.

“In basketball, it’s like having LeBron James and Stephen Curry as your playing mates,” said Romero. “I’m going to treasure this once-in-a lifetime experience. My long trip was really worth it.”

The charity event that was sponsored by Kingpower of Thailand was able to raise 150,000 pounds.

Aside from Prince Harry, other members of the Kingpower Foxes were Princess Azemah Bolkiah of Brunei, Top Srivadhanaprbha of Thailand and Facundo Pieres.

Kingpower Leichster City was made up of Romero, Tal Srivadhanaprbaha of Thailand, Prince Mateen Bolkiah of Brunei and world No.2 Gonzalito Pieres.

The charity match was the kick-off event of the Queen’s Cup – the world’s most prestigious polo tournament.
