Basketball fandom in the Philippines is serious business. Even if you can’t play, you still understand the game.

More than knowing all about hoops, there’s also an intense passion that stems from generations of families who’ve either played the game or have witnessed great on-court moments. From your run-of-the-mill baranggay liga to the NBA Finals, old timers always have stories about that time some player shot an impossible game-winner.

And not all fans are equal, either. Some are more mamaro (mamarunong just in case you don’t know) than others, while others only know how to cheer for their favorite team regardless of their win-loss record.

We tried to categorize the five most common types of Pinoy basketball fan and came up with the following. Do these categories resemble some of the people you know?

Fan Type#1: The Bandwagoner
They cheer for a different team every year and root for whoever the llamado squad is. For example, two seasons ago, these guys were all wearing Golden State Warriors gear. Last season? Their social media feeds were all about the greatness of LeBron James and the Cavs.

Fan Type #2: Die-Hards
Die-Hards rival Bandwagoners because there’s an awful lot of them, too. Think of Ginebra fans in the PBA. Whether the Gin Kings win championships or remain at the bottom of the standings, these people will cheer for them no matter what.

Fan Type#3: The Analyst
From talking about how James Harden doesn’t play D to how the Sacramento Kings were royally screwed by the powers that be against the L.A. Lakers in 2002, he’s always got some ready analysis for any type of basketball situation. Also, this dude knows a lot about stats. He also probably plays fantasy ball!

Fan Type #4: Player Loyalists
Some fans simply like players more than they do teams. Player Loyalist types follow their favorite ballers wherever they go. Case in point: LeBron fans followed him from Cleveland to Miami and back. Kevin Durant supporters this year switched from OKC to GSW. See where this is going?

Fan Type #5: Passive Types
These fans vaguely know who certain ballers or teams are, but don’t necessarily associate them with basketball. For example, certain girls know Chandler Parsons because of that one time he went on a date with KC Concepcion. They're also familiar with D’Angelo Russel because of the whole Iggy Azalea/Nick Young fiasco.
