Nestor Colonia bags bronze medal in Asian Weightlifting Championships

NESTOR Colonia copped the bronze medal in the 56-kilogram division clean-and-jerk event in the 2016 Asian Weightlifting Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Colonia lifted 148 kilograms to finish third in the clean-and-jerk category behind gold medal winner Meng Cheng of China (159 kgs) and Sinphet Kruaithong of Thailand (154 kgs).

A Rio Olympics aspirant, Colonia failed to bag a medal in the snatch and total.

He placed fourth in the snatch with a lift of 120 kgs, six kilos off bronze medal winner Meng, while tallying 268 kgs in the total, only fourth behind bronze winner Li Fabin of China (273 kgs).

Rowel Garcia, entered in the same weight category, finished 17th among 18 entries in the total and clean-and-jerk, and 16th in the snatch.

Hidilyn Diaz, who is aiming for her third appearance in the Olympics this year, is also competing in the Asian tilt.
