THE Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) expects Miguel Tabuena to get a berth when the final field for golf's return to the Olympic Games is determined on July 11.

POC first vice president Joey Romasanta said he learned from the International Olympic Committee sports entries meeting recently that Tabuena is already a shoo-in for the Olympics since he is currently ranked No. 37 among the golfers vying for tickets to Rio.

The top 60 golfers in the world ranking after July 11, with countries limited to two entries each, will gain an entry in the Olympics as the sport makes a return to the Summer Games.

"According to sports entries, safe na si Tabuena. He is a shoo-in," said Romasanta, who is also the chief of mission of the Philippine delegation to the Rio Olympics.

Angelo Que could also join Tabuena in Rio but the Pinoy golfer must maintain his ranking until the cut-off date. The Asian Tour veteran currently sits at the 52nd slot.

"Ang kailangan na lang mag-maintain ng puwesto is si Angelo Que," Romasanta said.

Tabuena’s rankings could get higher even more after the Filipino secured a spot in the US Open for winning the recent sectional qualifying in California.

It will be Tabuena's maiden appearance in a golf major.
