RIO DE JANEIRO—Jasmine Alkhaldi finished a strong third in heat two of the women’s 100m freestyle on Thursday, but not enough to reach the semifinals of the event, ending the campaign of the Filipino swimmers in the XXXI Olympiad at the Olympic Aquatic Stadium here

The Filipina failed to advance in the next round as she finished 33rd overall in the entire heats, that was topped by Australia’s Cate Campbell, who was so good she set an Olympic record with a time of 52.78.

Alkhaldi also failed to shatter her personal best of 55.94 seconds which she registered in a meet in Arizona last May.

The Thursday competition (Wednesday here) signaled the end of the country's campaign in the Rio swimming competition after Jessie Khing Lacuna earlier bombed out in the 400m freestyle event where he placed 46th overall.
