EVEN in ballroom dancing, University of the Philippines is the one of the best among UAAP schools.

The Fighting Maroons swept the two categories in the inaugural ballroom dancing competition held as a demonstration event highlighting the formal opening ceremony of Season 79 of the country's premier college league.

UP scored 92.48 points in the Latin category to beat host school University of Santo Tomas (91.66) and University of the East (84.42), while ruling the standard ballroom category with 94.3 points against the 92.1 of UST and the 87 of La Salle.

Ballroom dancing was held for the first time in the UAAP as a demonstration event, similar to that of cheerdance and streetdance, two events also ruled by UP in previous years.

UP has topped the cheerdance eight times, tying UST for the most number of titles. State U has also won the streetdance title in three of the five occasions.
