VERUEL Verdadero of Dasmarinas shattered the games record in the 100m dash in the 2015 POC-PSC Batang Pinoy National Finals on Monday at the Cebu City Sports Complex.
Verdadero won the gold with a time of 11.40 seconds, erasing the 11.53 mark for athletes below 16 years old set by Cebu City’s Lawrence Lopez in Bacolod City last year.
The 14-year-old Verdadero beat Joselito Hapitan of South Cotabato (11.53) and Jeremiah Cortez of Tagum City (11.54).
Verdadero was also part of the gold medal winning 4x100m relay team, finishing in 47.20 seconds.
Long jumper Gianelli Gatinga of Taguig City and high jumper Saira De Vera of Pangasinan also set new meet records.
Gatinga leaped 5.18 meters in the long jump to break the 5.30 mark set last year by Negros Occidental’s Romerose Villanueva.
De Vera cleared 1.49 meters in the high jump, breaking the 1.48 meter mark set by Judith Paquieroa of South Cotabato last year.
