THE Shakey’s V-League Season 10 Open Conference quarterfinals go full blast with a Sunday doubleheader at The Arena in San Juan.
Philippine Air Force battles Smart Maynilad in the main game at 4 p.m., while Philippine Army and Philippine National Police collide in the 2 p.m. curtain raiser.
All eyes will definitely be on the showdown between the Air Women and Net Spikers.
After a 0-2 start, the Air Women are on a roll by winning five straight games including a three-set victory over the Net Spikers in the eliminations, 25-22, 25-18, 25-17.
Air Force carries a 5-2 win-loss record, while Smart is just a notch behind at 4-3.
"Syempre 'yung morale ng mga bata mataas," said Air Force coach Clarence Esteban. "Kumpiyansa 'yung isip nila, kundisyon ang katawan kaya malaking tulong iyon."
But Smart will have the hard hitting Alyssa Valdez on its roster in its rematch with Air Force along mainstays Sue Roces, Maru Banaticla, and skipper Rubie de Leon.
Meanwhile, Philippine Army and Philippine National Police go to their match-up fresh from victories.
The Lady Troopers survived the Far Easter University Lady Tams, 25-15, 25-17, 26-24, 25-20, in their last outing.
"Kailangan namin ipagpatuoy ang magandang nasimulan namin," said Army coach Rico de Guzman. "Receive, block, at floor defense. Kasi sa first and second set maganda (ang performance) pero sa third nawawala na."
De Guzman hopes that by Sunday Jovelyn Gonzaga, Michele Carolino, and Tina Salak have fully recovered from fever.
The Lady Patrolers meanwhile, try to avenge their, 25-14, 25-15, 25-17, loss in the eliminations.
"I hope na babalikan namin ang Smart, Meralco, and the rest na tumalo sa amin sa eliminations," said PNP coach Bob Malenab. "Lalaban kami."
