PLDT Home Telpad edged Meralco, 25-20, 26-28, 25-20, 19-25, 15-8, on Thursday to clinch third place in the Shakey's V-League Foreign Reinforced Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Skipper Sue Roces came with 23 points to power the Turbo Boosters, while Gretchel Soltones added 17.
PLDT coach Roger Gorayeb said he is pleased to see his all-Filipino squad, despite all the struggles from practice to matches, finish with the bronze medal for the second time this season after also placing third in the Open Conference.
The Turbo Boosters won in two hours and 15 minutes to complete a sweep of the Power Attackers in the best-of-three battle for third. PLDT won the first match, 25-21, 21-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-11.
From a tied contest 4-all in the fifth and final set, PLDT used a 6-1 run to grab the upper hand, 10-5.
Meralco eraned two points from Maru Banaticla's service error and Soltones’ attack fault, 7-10 but the Turbo Boosters scored five of the last six points to seal the victory, while Meralco ended the conference winless in eight games.
Paneng Mercado finished with 21 points for Meralco, Maica Morada added 16 and Aby Marano and team captain Maureen Penetrante-Ouano each had 10 markers.
Meralco’s Thai import Wanida Kotruang scored only four points in three sets before being benched.
