NATIONAL University clobbered Baguio, 25-10, 25-19, 25-11, to move a win away from securing a playoff for a semis seat in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Monday.
Jaja Santiago was dominant for NU as she finished with a game-high 18 points, from 11 spikes, four blocks and three service aces in a match that took exactly an hour.
But the Lady Bulldogs, who improved to 3-3, will have to win its last game against University of the Philippines to solidify its bid for the semis. Still, NU coach Roger Gorayeb was satisfied with his young team's performance throughout the conference, especially noting that all their losses were hard-fought five-setters against seasoned clubs.
“Bonus sa amin kapag umabot kami sa semis. Alam niyo naman ang team eh galing kami sa rebuilding (stage), baguhin lahat ng sistema nila, ‘yung character nila,” he said.
“Kalaban namin mga club teams tapos nakakalimang set kami, nauuna pa kami sa dalawang set. Doon pa lang masaya na ako eh,” Gorayeb added.
Jorelle Singh and Aiko Urdas also contributed nine and eight markers, respectively, for the Lady Bulldogs.
May Ann Atuban finished with six points for Baguio, which remained winless in six matches.
