    Apr 2, 2014

ARELLANO eyes its third straight win and a big follow-up to its upset win over Ateneo when the Lady Chiefs battle the St. Benilde Lady Blazers on Thursday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 First Conference at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Chiefs won their first two outings and stake their unblemished slate against the Lady Blazers, who are coming off victory in their season debut.

Both teams are also looking to score a more comfortable win this time after being stretched to five sets in their recent matches.

The match starts at 4 p.m.

Danna Henson and Christine Rosario led the way for Arellano in a 21-25, 25-16, 17-25, 25-20, 15-13 shocker over UAAP champion Ateneo on Sunday.

Henson came up with 14 points, 12 coming from spikes, while Rosario defended the net well and registered six blocks for the Lady Chiefs, the surprise leader in Group B.

National University, the leader in the Group A after winning its first two games, doesn’t play its third match until next week.

St. Benilde, meanwhile, was led by Therese Veronas, Jeanette Panaga and Maureen Loren in a 25-23, 25-23, 15-25, 23-25, 15-9 victory over Cebu collegiate champion Southwestern University on Tuesday.

Veronas scored 24, Panaga had 20 and Loren 16 for CSB, and are again expected to deliver big numbers.

Adamson, which recovered from an opening-day loss to Ateneo with a straight-sets win over St. Louis, try to score their second win when they battle SWU, which has lost two straight after an opening-day win.
