    Spain cooperation deal to benefit PH athletes

    THE PHILIPPINES and Spain have signed a memorandum of understanding for sports cooperation.

    Salvador Andrada, commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commission, and Santiago Gonzalez Fernandez-Corugedo, educational counsellor of the Spanish embassy, signed the agreement that paves the way for exchanges in topics related to institutional cooperation, field of science and technology applied to sport, medicine for sports practitioners, the struggle against doping, and the sponsorship and patronage of sports.

    The Philippines and Spain will also cooperate in the organization of sporting events, the training of sports specialists and administrators, programs for the support and encouragement of sport for the disabled, the protection of young practitioners of sports, and the field of women and sport.

    The Philippines is expected to benefit from the MOU as its sports agreement with China got affected due to the Scarborough Shoal issue.
