Net Spikers beat Lady Sailors to halt two-game skid

    Sep 10, 2013

SMART snapped its two-game skid as it trounced Philippine Navy, 25-18, 25-14, 25-11, in the Shakey's V-League Season 10 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Tuesday.

Thai reinforcement Lithawat Kesinee, in her first game of the conference, led the Net Spikers with 20 points, while Maru Banaticla added 12 and Gretchel Soltones and Sue Roces chipped in 11 each.

"Masaya kasi tapos na two-game losing streak namin," said Roces. "Tapos dumating pa si Peenok kaya nakahinga na kami ng maluwag. 'Yung presence ni Peenok at 'yung leadership niya na dala niya malaking
    bagay."

Roces said it wasn’t difficult adjusting to plays with Kesinee, having played with the Thai import before.

"Naging teammate na namin ni Jem (Ferrer) si Peenok, the rest first time. Pero jolly naman siya, nakikipag-usap siya lagi so wala naman problema konting adjustment lang," said Roces.

The Net Spikers, who finished the match in 61 minutes, improved to solo fourth spot with a 4-2 card.

Smart outplayed Navy offensively as it registered 48 won spikes against the Lady Sailors' 18. The Net Spikers were also effective in the service area as they came up with 10 aces compared to Navy's four.

Cecille Cruzada had eight points for Navy, which absorbed its fourth loss in five games.
