Angara calls for Senate inquiry into 'unjust' disqualification of Vargas from POC elections

THE row surrounding the coming elections of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) is headed to the august halls of the Senate.

Senator Sonny Angara has filed a resolution asking the Senate Committee on Sports to conduct an inquiry into the 'unjust imposition of eligibility requirements for the candidates for the POC president' and limit the participation of other members.

The resolution passed last Wednesday came in the wake of the POC election committee's decision to deny the protest filed by the camp of boxing head Ricky Vargas against his disqualification from contesting the presidency against three-termer Jose 'Peping' Cojuangco.

The same resolution also asked the Senate to look into 'unliquidated funds' released to the POC during the term of Cojuangco.

The committee on sports is headed by boxing great Manny Pacquiao, with Angara serving as vice chairman,

The POC has been furnished copy of the resolution, aloing with the Philippine Sports Commisssion (PSC), various National Sports Associations (NSAs), and other various agencies and entities.
