PHNOM PENH, Cambodia - Vanessa Sarno shattered a Southeast Asian Games record that she owned on her way to defending her gold in the women's weightlifting 71kg at the Olympic Stadium.

The 19-year-old Sarno carried 105 kilograms in the snatch to break her record by one kilo.
Sarno then sealed the gold with a 120 in the clean and jerk on her first and only attempt for a total of 225.

Only a bum left knee prevented Sarno from attempting a SEA Games record in the clean and jerk of 135 kilograms that would have also shattered the total mark of 239 which she both set in Vietnam last year.
Sarno was coming off a campaign in the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Korea just last week where she captured the silver in all three events before she experienced tightness in his legs.
But the Tagbilaran, Bohol native said she was bent on breaking the Games record in the snatch.
“Hindi na po kasi sumakit ‘yung tuhod ko after ng Korea kaya gold lang ang kinuha namin,” said Sarno.
Sarno though ruled out any serious injury on his left knee.
“Masaya po ako na maayos pa rin ‘yung performance ko ngayon kahit na kakalaro ko lang nung Asian Championship sa Korea,” said the Tagbilaran, Bohol native.
Sarno followed the achievement of Elreen Ando, who took the gold medal in the women’s 59kg division.
