ALYSSA Valdez, Aby Marano, Jovelyn Gonzaga and Rhea Dimaculangan are set to see action for the third straight Southeast Asian Games as they banner the Philippine women’s volleyball team in the regional meet set Nov. 28 to Dec. 11.
Larong Vollleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. bared the final 14-member squad on Wednesday.
Jia Morado, who missed the 2017 SEA Games in Malaysia, is also set for a comeback, joining fellow second-timers Ces Molina, Mika Reyes and Dawn Macandili.
Kalei Mau makes her SEA Games debut along with Eya Laure, Maddie Madayag, Kath Arado as well Majoy Baron and Mylene Paat, who made their national team debuts in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
The Philippines is hoping to end a 14-year medal drought in the regional meet. The last time the Philippines won a medal in the biennial meet was when the team led by Tina Salak and Ging Balse-Pabayo under head coach Ramil De Jesus placed third in the Manila SEA Games in 2005.
The Philippine women’s team will leave for Tokyo in the third week of October for their final overseas training before seeing action in the Philippine Superliga Super Cup in November, where they will battle two PSL selections and a team from Japan.
