TREAT Huey has committed to compete for the Philippines in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games despite a hectic schedule in August that includes the US Open.

Huey, a regular in the tennis professional tour as a doubles player, said he will definitely be playing for the Philippines in the SEA Games set August 19 to 31 in Malaysia even with the US Open set to take place August 28 to September 10 in New York.

“I’m excited for the Southeast Asian Games. It’s right before the US Open. It’s going to be tough for me but I’m looking forward to trying to make it work,” said Huey.

Huey will defend his mixed doubles gold that he won with Denise Dy during the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore.

“I’ve always done well in the SEA Games. Hopefully, it’s going to be the same this year. We have a good team. It’s something that I look forward to make Philippine tennis better and better,” Huey said.

Huey said he doesn’t see any problem with the days that will coincide between the SEA Games and the US Open.

“My plan is to be there for the SEA Games because I played every SEA Games since I started nine years ago. It’s for sure. It’s an honor to represent the country,” said Huey.

The 31-year-old Huey admitted it gets harder for him to play in more events at this point of his career, but he vowed to go for gold especially in the doubles events.

“I always play the doubles and mixed doubles last time, and before I played singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. It’s harder for me to play everything now but for me, I’ll do my best to win the doubles and mixed. It’s my priority,” said Huey.

Huey is currently in the country to see action in the Davis Cup where he will compete in the doubles Saturday afternoon at the Philippine Columbian Association.
