AN all-Filipino final has been set in tennis men’s doubles after the team of Ruben Gonzales and Treat Huey and the pairing of Francis Casey Alcantara and Jeson Patrombon advanced to the finals of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
Gonzales and Huey, the top-seed in the tournament, beat Quoc Khanh Le and Hoang Nam Ly of Vietnam, 6-0, 7-5, while Alcantara and Patrombon also won in straight sets over Daniel Nguyen Co and Nguyen Van Phuong of Vietnam, 6-3, 6-1, at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
The gold-medal match is set on Saturday, 1 p.m. at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Gonzales and Huey drew a first-round bye and beat Mohd Adam Das Shamirul Shahril and Syed Naguib Syed Mohamad Agil, 6-3, 6-3, in the quarterfinals.
Alcantara and Patrombon had a different route, winning over Timor Leste’s Patricio Jose Ferreira and Antonio Mendes, 6-0, 6-0, before beating third-seed David Susanto and Ignatius Susanto of Indonesia, 6-4, 6-0 in the quarters.
