Mixed emotions as taekwondo jin wins Timor Leste's first silver medal

TIMOR Leste jin Ana Da Costa Da Silva Pinto Belo may have bowed to Julalan Khantikulanon in the women's -46 kg finals in the taekwondo competitions, but she delivered the country's first silver medal in the 30th Southeast Asian Games on Monday at Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.

Pinto Belo suffered a 23-0 defeat at the hands of her Thai foe but still put up a tremendous fight in front of a packed crowd.

She earlier outpointed Un Pitch Chornai of Cambodia, 30-9, in the semis to advance to the gold medal match.

It was Timor Leste's sixth silver in the SEA Games since it started participating in the biennial games in 2003.

The nation last won a silver medal in Singapore, when Rosa Luisa Dos Santos finished runner-up in the same weight division, women's -46 kg, in the taekwondo competitions of the 2015 SEA Games.
