TIM Cone couldn’t be any happier having June Mar Fajardo on board for Gilas Pilipinas’ buildup for the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
The San Miguel big man finally showed up at the Meralco gym on Thursday after missing the team’s first training last week to attend to a personal matter.
The presence of the 6-foot-10 five-time PBA MVP is a ‘confidence builder,’ according to Cone.
“He’s such a huge presence,” said Cone of Fajardo. “It just builds you’re confidence. Looking at the lineup out there, I was looking at it like, wow, I think it was Troy (Rosario), Jayson (Castro), June Mar, Stanley (Pringle), and Matthew Wright. And they were running our offense. Like, 'Wow, look at those guys move,' incredible talent out there and their basketball IQs are off the charts.”
Fajardo will definitely play a huge role in Cone’s system alongside Rosario.
“Troy is really a good complement to June Mar in terms of what we hope to do with June Mar,” he said.
“We’re just really beginning. We’re just barely printed the foundation of our continuity offense, we still have sets that we have to add for June Mar,” Cone added. “We envisioned a lot, it’s just a matter of prioritizing what we can get done. But we’re all excited.”
