SUBIC, Zambales — The Philippines was relegated to the bronze-medal match after losing to Thailand in the men’s beach volleyball tournament of the 30th Southeast Asian Games on Thursday night.
James Buytrago and James Requinton put up a whale of a fight against Surin Jongklang and Banlue Nakprakhong before falling short, 19-21, 21-23, at the converted Subic Tennis Courts.
In the second match, Edmar Bonono and Jude Garcia bowed to Nuttanon Inkiew and Sedtawat Padsawud, 17-21, 19-21.
The Philippines will now face Singapore for bronze while Thailand and Indonesia will clash for the gold.
In the other semifinal, Indonesia swept Singapore, 21-16, 21-16, in Game One and 21-12, 21-15, in Game Two.
