    Glorious Sunday sees Team PH breach 100-gold barrier in SEA Games

    NEW CLARK CITY – Team Philippines finally broke the 100-gold barrier in the 30th Southeast Asian Games for the first time in a decade following a deluge of gold medals in different fronts on a Sunday to remember.

    With wakeboarding and surfing leading the charge early in the day, the Filipinos easily reached the plateau before nighttime just before the start of the competitions in the medal-rich athletics program.


      As of posting time, the country already had a total of 103 golds and counting with two more days of competitions before the region’s biggest regional meet comes to a close.

      The host has also amassed 80 silver and 88 bronze medals as it locked up the SEA Games overall championship - its first since the 2005 Games in Manila.

      In all, the hosts have won 21 gold medals in this day alone.

      The day was also highlighted by stunning victories by the men's volleyball team against defending champion Thailand in the semifinals and the women's basketball side against reigning titlist Malaysia.

        Going by the pace golds have been pouring in for the host, the country is certain of surpassing the 113 golds it won during the 2005 staging of the meet when it won the overall title for the first and only time.
